Karrinyup: Home of Perth’s Premier Club

Our property management team usually likes to talk about affordable, family-friendly suburbs when we recommend places to purchase investment properties. But sometimes, we get investors who want to move a step up into more prestigious properties and suburbs in the Perth area. Karrinyup is definitely one of those suburbs.

The Demographics

Karrinyup is a Perth suburb located 11.5 km northwest of the Perth CBD. According to the Census of 2011, its population is 8,524, of which 52.4% are female and 47.6% are male. As is often the case in a more affluent suburb, the median age is 40 years, a full three years above the Australian average.

54.8% are married, while 28.8% have never been married. The unemployment rate is 3.5%, with 57.3% of the population working full time and 33.1% working part time. Professionals comprise 30.3% of the workforce, while managers come in second with 15.4%. 12.2% are techs and tradies, 8.6% are sales workers, 8% are personal and community service workers, 5% are labourers and 3.1% are machinery operators.

The median income for individuals is $724 per week while the median income for households is $1791 per week. The median house is $815,000 and weekly median rent is $600. Only 23% of homes in Karrinyup are rentals.

Lake Karrinyup Country Club

Karrinyup is a bit different than our standard family fare and the Karrinyup Country Club is a great example of why. It is recognised by many as the premier golf club in Western Australia and is currently the home course for the Perth International Golf Championship. Lake Karrinyup is a private club that accepts members by invitation only, but they advertise that they have room for more female members right now.

Besides a world class golf course, Lake Karrinyup Country Club is described on its website as a “botanical haven for wildlife,” rife with native birds and kangaroos. They have a full range of banquet and clubhouse facilities, often hosting conferences and weddings.
