Libraries Encourage Reading in Padbury: Why Not Take the Kids?

Padbury is a suburb located within the City of Joondalup. It has its own school system with four schools and its residents have easy access to the Joondalup library system. While some people and some cities may regard libraries as mere trifles, we can assure you that Joondalup is serious about their library system.

Joondalup Library System

Their statistics for the financial year of 2012-2013 indicate that they issued close to 1.3 million items and added close to 9,700 new members, while handling close to 94,000 information enquiries. In addition, their learning programs had a total of nearly 21,000 students, including adults and children.

According to their website, this makes them one of the most-used and largest library systems in WA. They pride themselves on their versatility, offering “something for everyone,” including self serve, RFID, free Wi-Fi at the Duncraig and Joondalup libraries, opportunities for lifelong learning and other programs designed to benefit the community.

The library system has four locations: Joondalup, Duncraig, Woodvale and Whitford. Each has a slightly different focus to increase the range of offerings system-wide.

Joondalup is the largest branch in the system. It is located at 102 Boas Avenue, within close proximity of numerous cafes and restaurants, as well as the City of Joondalup Administration Building. Its unique offerings are the local history area and the reference area.

The Whitford branch, opened in 1980, is located at the corner of Banks and Marmion Avenues in Hilary. Their specialty is offering numerous events for both adults and children. They are located at the Whitford Shopping Centre on the east side and they have a lot of parking available.

The Duncraig branch was established in 1974 and has undergone renovation many times since then. Its specialty is offering what they call a “welcoming, family-oriented space” which provides ample opportunity for both recreation and learning.

Woodvale has one unique offering: a children’s fantasy area, featuring Archibald the Dragon and Dewey the Gargoyle. Located at 5 Trapper’s Drive in Woodvale, it also features an open plan design.

What We Think

Padbury and all of the Joondalup area are very good suburbs for investment properties due to an extremely family-friendly environment and focus on facilities such as the libraries.
