We focus a lot on the family-friendly aspects of suburbs on this blog, but sometimes, we feel the need to mention things to do that don’t involve the entire family. The Morley Recreation Centre offers some great programs for adults who just want to get out and meet their neighbours or those who want to exercise among like-minded people. Here are a few programs the Morley Recreation Centre offers.
Pilates
Though pilates is often compared to yoga, it is a western exercise system. It achieves many of the same objectives as yoga, but in a much more contemporary way with a faster tempo. The movements in Pilates are designed to improve ease and economy of motion, flexibility and body awareness. Instructors are very “hands-on,” because each cm of inaccuracy in an exercise is estimated to be able to diminish the effectiveness by as much as 40%. Classes are divided into Level 1 and Level 2.
Group Singing
This offering is pure, unadulterated fun. If you like people and like to sing, this will be right up your alley. This “class” is conducted in a fun, non-threatening environment. This is a great chance to sing your favourite songs and socialise with kindred spirits.
Adult Art Classes
Instructor D’hange Yamanee has created an introductory course that starts with teaching students how to utilise light and atmosphere and how do develop an artistic eye when observing light. The method is easy to understand and taught step by step.
Group Training Programs
The Morley Recreation Centre runs two levels of serious group training programs: the 30-minute “Sanity” and the 60-minute “Bootcamp Raw.”.
Sanity
The Sanity program is based on the Albert Einstein adage about the definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Consequently, Sanity mixes it up with a clever and effective combination of different exercises and equipment, including suspension training, agility ladders, power ropes, slam balls, box jumps and more. Designed to boost strength and cardio.
Bootcamp Raw
Bootcamp Raw is twice as long as Sanity and a substantial step up. It is designed to improve speed, strength and endurance. Sessions feature both individual and team challenges.
