Despite it's isolation and relatively small population, Perth is a surprisingly culturally diverse city. Perth's combination of big-city attractions with relaxed and informal surrounds offers an appealing lifestyle for locals and visitors. The city is located on the Swan River, with the suburbs sprawling out in a north-south direction, and east to the Darling Ranges. Locals refer to locations as being either north or south of the river, or in the Hills. The river borders the city center to the south and east, and links Perth to its neighboring port city, Fremantle. Follow the river north from the city and you'll reach prosperous nooks such as Claisebrook Cove, lined with ostentatious houses, cafes and public sculpture.

The CBD and Northbridge are close to public transport, making hopping out to inner-city suburbs such as Leederville and Mt Lawley straightforward– along with a good public transport system – allow its inhabitants to spread out and enjoy what's on offer.
