A residential suburb just recently converted from being a cluster of small farms, Piara Waters has seen significant growth in the past decade. Population quickly grew from 94 in 2006 to 2,589 in 2011. Officials are projecting a steady increase in the next couple of years, targeting a population of more than 8,000 by 2021 or so. To attract more people to settle in the area, planning officials are working on several facilities which would be available in the next couple of years. Still, a huge portion of the suburb is still occupied by Piara Nature Reserve, hindering a rapid and huge development in this protected area. Previously, the suburb was part of Forrestdale before it was gazetted as a separate suburb in 2007.
Piara Waters features a great location in the heart of Perth, surrounded by other suburbs: Canning Vale, Jandakot, Banjup, Harrisdale, and Forrestdale. It also enjoys a great location just 20 kilometers south, southeast of Perth CBD.
