Set within the City of Canning in Perth, the suburb of Queens Park first began as Woodlupine; however, a gruesome murder in 1911 prompted town officials to seek for a name change in fear that retaining the old name could hurt the sale of properties in the then developing area. The new name was chosen in honor of Queen Alexandra, the wife of King Edward VII. Today, development is quite fast in the area, with a property boom seen as developers buy up old homes and convert these into state-of-the-art condominium units and other modern residential properties. The suburb has also grown, incorporating the former suburb of Maniana.
Queens Park features a great location just 11 km (7 mi) from Perth CBD, allowing easy access to the entertainment features and landmarks in the area. The suburb is also surrounded by other suburbs: Welshpool, Bentley, Cannington, and East Cannington.
