A stunning community where there are plenty of scenic spots and fantastic places to hang out, Atwell is a great suburb to live in. As a suburb, it developed in the early 1900s but the place had previously been a prolific dairy farm from the 1920s to the late 1950s. The dairy farm was owned by Ernest Atwell. When the suburb was created, it was but fitting to name it after the man who made a huge contribution to developing the area. Suburban development is not permitted to the east of Atwell as that portion is part of the Jandakot ground water protection area.
Atwell is set some 21 km (13 mi) south of Perth City, surrounded by other suburbs: Banjup, Aubin Grove, Hammond Park, Success, Cockburn Central, and Jandakot. This lovely suburb occupies an area of 3.7 km2 (1.4 sq mi), with plenty of small natural and created wetlands within its boundaries. It is also set between the Darling scarp and the coast on the Swan coastal plain.
Atwell is favored by many families, especially because it offers several medical facilities, including a physiotherapy clinic, a pharmacy, an infant health clinic, and a general practitioner's medical center. It is also served by a secondary school, Atwell College, as well as 2 primary schools: Harmony Primary and Atwell Primary.
