North Beach features a wonderful location in the west coast, hugging the shores of the Indian Ocean. Its name began simply as a description for the area where Perth’s northernmost beaches are located. Originally assigned as a timber reserve, the area began to attract pastoralists in the 1860s. Still, it was not until after World War II that development rapidly began for a suburb in the area. By 1961, the suburb has been built and occupied by residents in the form that is similar to its current appearance.
North Beach is a great destination for travelers, set along the coast and offering a wonderful location just 16 km (10 mi) northwest of Perth CBD. It occupies an area of 1.7 km2 (0.7 sq mi). The Indian Ocean is located to its west while the rest of its boundaries are occupied by other suburbs: Watermans Bay, Trigg, Karrinyup, and Carine.
As a residential suburb, North Beach features plenty of amenities to suit the needs of its residents. Kids in the neighborhood are served by Carine Senior High School, Our Lady of Grace School, and North Beach Primary School.
For recreation, residents and visitors of North Beach can relax at the beach or enjoy playing tennis at the synthetic and hard tennis courts. They can also find time to visit Mount Flora Regional Museum, a museum maintained by the North Suburban Historical Society but was once a water tower servicing the area in its early days.
