Riverton is a lovely suburb in Perth, fondly called locally as the Riverton Bridge for an actual timber bridge that spans Canning River with the suburb at one end. This was also the name used to distinguish this suburb from another Riverton suburb in South Australia. Still, even when the suburb is set along the river, the views are less spectacular compared with neighboring Shelley; thus, property prices are considerably lower in Riverton. A great place with lots of detached homes, this suburb makes a nice home for families to live in.
Riverton offers a charming location right along Canning River, with several main roads passing through the suburb. These are Roe Highway, High Road, and Leach Highway which make traveling more convenient in the area. Set just 14 km (9 mi) from Perth CBD, visitors and residents need only to drive some 15 minutes to reach the attractions there. It is surrounded by other suburbs: Shelley, Willetton, Canning Vale, Wilson, Ferndale, and Parkwood.
Although the Riverton suburb does not have its own secondary school, there are 2 primary schools catering to the educational needs of the children in the area: Queen of Apostles Primary School and Riverton Primary School. The suburb also features a library set inside Riverton Leisureplex.
For recreation, visitors and residents of Riverton can enjoy a day of fun at Riverton Leisureplex which features sports and fitness facilities. They can also go shopping at Stockland Riverton shopping centre, locally known as the Riverton Forum, its former name. The shopping center is small but those who want to have better options can easily drive to Perth CBD. Adenia Road Park and Clune Park are also great for fun and relaxation.
Riverton is served by several bus routes: 75 from Perth Esplande Busport to Canning Vale via Curtin University Bus Station and Riverton, 179 from Perth Esplanade Busport to Bull Creek Station via Victoria Park Transfer Station Victoria Park and Riverton, and 200 from Booragoon Bus Station to Cannington Station via High Rd, Riverton Forum and Bull Creek Station.
