Willetton is a large suburb set in the City of Canning in Perth. Its name was derived from Henry Willett of Willett & Co, the company granted Canning Location 21 which is now comprised by Lynwood and Parkwood. Its name was supposed be used by its neighbor, Lynwood, but when the developers had chosen that name, the proposed “Willetton” was moved to its current owner. The proposed name for Willetton of today had been “Burtsdale”. Most of the properties in the area are 3- to 4-bedroom detached homes. The latest census revealed that the area is populated by a mostly average-income population comprised of some 17,571 people.
Willetton is a fairly large suburb occupying an area of 8.6 km2 (3.3 sq mi). It belongs to the federal division of Tangney and the state electorate of Riverton. Other suburbs around it are: Rossmoyne, Bull Creek, Leeming, Riverton, Parkwood, and Canning Vale. It also features a nice location just 16 km (10 mi) from Perth CBD.
Willetton is a great place to live in, with plenty of useful amenities and facilities to cater to the needs of its residents. It is home to the largest public high school in Western Australia, Willetton Senior High School. There are also several primary schools within its boundaries: Orana Catholic Primary School, Rostrata Primary School, Willetton Primary School, Burrendah Primary School, and Castlereagh Primary School. For recreation, Willetton residents and visitors can spend time at the Riverton Leisureplex set along High Road. There are also 3 small neighborhood shopping centers aside from the much larger Southlands Boulevarde shopping centre.
