Balcatta is an established suburb in Perth, best known for its eclectic culture and a mixture of several designs from foreign immigrants who seem to favor the area over other suburbs in the city. When property development began in the suburb, the area wasn't settled yet. Thus, it was easier for migrant families to create their own style. It soon became quite popular to Southern European families but also drew a lot of Macedonian immigrants and Asian families, especially in recent years. Today, Balcatta is inhabited by a mix heritage of people mostly coming from a middle class background.
Balcatta features a wonderful location 10 km north of Perth CBD and within just a few minutes from the stunning sunsets over the beaches to the west. It occupies an area of 7.3 km2 and is surrounded by other suburbs: Carine, Gwelup, Stirling, Hamersley, Osborne Park, Tuart Hill, Balga, Yokine, Westminster, and Nollamara.
A number of amenities cater to the needs of residents and guests of Balcatta. A lot of the kids in Balcatta have to turn to other suburbs for education, although many also go to the only high school in the suburb, Balcatta Senior High School, and to Takari Primary School.
Home to the Balcatta Cricket Club, Jones Paskin Reserve features a cricket oval and is a popular attraction especially during game season. Guests and residents can also readily drive to the beaches about 20 minutes away or to Perth CBD for additional forms of recreation.
Transport to Balcatta is served by a number of bus routes and taxi services. Route 387 passes along Balcatta Road while 414 covers Balcatta and Main Street.
