Stirling is a fantastic residential suburb set in the City of Stirling in Perth. Until 1976, the suburb belonged to Balcatta, another suburb. When it became an independent suburb, the City of Stirling requested for it to be named after the city because it is home to the Council's headquarters. The city and the suburb were both named in honor of first Western Australian governor, James Stirling. Major suburban and property developments began in the 1960s. Today, many public parks and lake estates can be found across the suburb, creating a lovely atmosphere for its residents to live in.
Stirling covers an area of 4.6 km2 (1.8 sq mi) and is set 10 km (6 mi) north, northwest of Perth CBD. It is surrounded by other suburbs: Gwelup, Innaloo, Balcatta, Osborne Park, and Tuart Hill. It is also set along the Mitchell Freeway, allowing easier travel to the CBD.
Stirling features many great amenities that its residents surely appreciate. Set just outside the suburb is the Stirling Lions soccer club, aside from the many sports grounds and reserves also available within its boundaries. To date, there are no schools within the suburb but kids can go to primary schools at neighboring Balcatta, Osborne Park, and Gwelup. Balcatta Senior High School is also set just along the suburb’s northern boundary. It is also home to a 205-bed community general hospital, Osborne Park Hospital.
For recreation, Stirling offers a wide range of fun venues for its residents and visitors to enjoy. There are also nature reserves and sports grounds within its boundaries. For shopping needs, they can visit Karrinyup Shopping Centre, Cedric Street, and Stirling Village shopping centre.
Stirling is served by several bus routes: the CircleRoute along lower Cedric Street and Karrinyup Road, 276/278 routes from Perth which services Hamilton Street in the suburb's southeast, and Transperth 414 bus route running along Cedric Street between Stirling and Glendalough.
